Pakistan deserves global support to fight terror: Karzai

NEW YORK: The newly-elected Pakistani government deserves the support of the international community to fight the war on terror, Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai said on Monday.

In an interview with Newsweek magazine, he said Pakistan was on his side in the fight against terror.

“We should all help President Asif Ali Zardari because he has the right intentions and the right policy for Pakistan and for the region, and I think he deserves our assistance,” Karzai said. “I have full faith in Zardari.”

Asked whether Zardari could control the country’s intelligence agencies, he said the international community should enable the Pakistan government to do that. Karzai said he had heard positive things about Pakistan army chief General Ashfaq Kayani. afp
